    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Adams is eager to open a new chapter in his career, having seen his former club suffer relegation out of the Premier League, and hopes that he will be ready to make his bow for the Cherries in mid to late-September. He has told : “It's tough to watch from the sidelines but I'm very close though. About a couple of weeks out I would say, so I think after the international break is going to be my first look at games. Hopefully in the international break there's a friendly of some sorts I'll play some capacity in that and getting back after the international break.”

  • AND WHAT'S MORE

Adams believes that he has the qualities to make a telling contribution at Bournemouth, adding on what he will bring to the fold: “After I talked to the staff, the ownership group and exactly what they wanted to do here, I knew I could fit right in. I think I'm going to bring a little bit of tenacity to this team. The way that Andoni [Iraola] wants to play, which is a high press on the front foot, looking to win balls, I think that's something that I'm good at and I'm certainly going to try and bring that here.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Adams is back in the English top-flight after making a big-money move to the Vitality Stadium, but he is not yet match fit. He has suffered the odd setback in his recovery from a niggling knock, with it yet to be determined when the 24-year-old will be ready to take in a debut appearance for Bournemouth.

  • AND WHAT'S MORE

Adams has told the Cherries official media channels of his rehabilitation and when he could come into contention for selection by new boss Andoni Iraola: “Yeah, there’s been a lot of ups and downs. This has been my most major injury in my career. I got a little bit excited when I started to feel good early on but came back a little bit too quickly and had a bit of a setback. Throughout the summer I was able to make a lot of progress. I’m excited about where I’m at and I’m hoping that I can have an influence on the pitch very soon.”

Adams is looking forward to getting started with Bournemouth, with it still his dream to make a telling contribution to a Premier League cause. He added: “It’s the best league in the world. Growing up, that’s all I watched, the Premier League. Last year, having that opportunity to fulfil that dream was amazing.”

West Ham make concrete moves for Simeone

According to a report by TUTTOmercatoWEB, as translated and shared by Sport Witness, West Ham have now made ‘concrete moves’ for Cagliari forward Giovanni Simeone.

The Lowdown: West Ham scouring for striker…

West Ham have been monitoring new centre-forwards for some time, with ExWHUemployee previously claiming Ivan Toney, Tammy Abraham, Adam Armstrong and Youssef En-Nesyri were on the radar.

More recently, the likes of Paul Onuachu have also sprung into contention for a summer move to east London.

Star striker Michail Antonio suffered a variety of injury issues over 2020/2021 and West Ham need to bolster their forward line ahead of a busy campaign in the Europa League.

The Latest: West Ham have now made ‘concrete moves’ for Simeone…

As per TMW (via Sport Witness), West Ham have now made ‘concrete moves’ for Simeone alongside Ligue 1 giants Marseille.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest/” title=”West Ham latest!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

He is attracting a lot of attention from rival clubs this summer in Italy too, with Torino, Sampdoria and Bologna all interested in a swoop.

It is the Irons and Marseille, though, who have made ‘concrete’ moves for the player – with Simeone himself tempted by the prospect of playing abroad.

The 25-year-old has apparently ‘winked’ at interested clubs across the continent with a desire to test his abilities away from Italy.

The Verdict: Better options…

Simeone has bagged 50 Serie A goals in total since first moving to the division in 2016, having enjoyed stints at Genoa, Fiorentina and now Cagliari.

The fact he is eager to test himself abroad could also help West Ham make a move, but we believe the Irons are better targeting other forwards.

Strikers like Toney (33 goals), Armstrong (29 goals) and Onuachu (35 goals), who have all just enjoyed prolific seasons throughout all competitions, arguably come as better options.

    What happened?

Benfica have stepped up their interest in Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez as they prepare for life after Goncalo Ramos, reports.

Ramos has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, with clubs such as Manchester United and Newcastle United believed to be keeping a close eye on the attacker, while Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with an interest in signing him.

Benfica have not given up hopes of holding on to their star striker just yet, but have actively started looking at alternatives and they think Gimenez would be the ideal replacement for Ramos in case of a transfer.

  • The bigger picture

Gimenez has caught the attention of a number of high-profile clubs after an impressive debut season with Feyenoord.

The 22-year-old has also been linked with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid.

The Mexico star has a contract with Feyenoord until June 20226 and the Eredivisie giants have set a hefty asking price for their star striker.

They were previously believed to be asking for a transfer fee in the region of $30 million, but recent reports now suggest they are aiming for up to $50m.

    And what's more

Gimenez has enjoyed a stellar 2022-23 campaign during which he not just made a name for himself in Europe, but also became a key figure for the national team after missing out on a spot in Mexico's World Cup squad.

The striker netted 23 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions for Feyenoord to help them lift the Eredivisie title, while they also reached the semi-finals of the KNVB Beker and the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

He then capped his fine campaign with two goals in six Gold Cup appearances for Mexico, including the only goal of the game in the 1-0 final win over Panama.

The attacker was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but has opted to represent Mexico at international level.

Pundit tips Helder Costa to leave Leeds

Helder Costa will leave Leeds United if they sign Adama Traore from Wolves this summer, according to former England striker Kevin Phillips.

The Lowdown: Costa struggles for playing time

The Whites enjoyed a triumphant return to the Premier League last season, finithing ninth in the table and playing some eye-catching football.

Numerous players had key roles for Leeds throughout the campaign, but Costa was more of a peripheral figure, starting just 13 league games.

The Portuguese has been linked with a move away from Elland Road this summer, even though his current deal doesn’t expire until 2024.

[freshpress-quiz id=“359346″]

The Latest: Winger tipped to leave

Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips claimed he could see Costa moving on during the summer transfer window, especially if Leeds-linked Wolves winger Traore signed for the Whites:

“The way it’s looking at the moment, it would, unfortunately, probably be him.

“It would be quite ironic that he was at Wolves and it might well be another Wolves player coming in for him as well.

“It’s amazing how football works out like that sometimes, isn’t it?”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-copy-2/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Verdict: Time for a fresh challenge

Costa is a player who boasts plenty of quality – he has been described as ‘very talented’ by former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo and still ended the league season with six goal involvements despite rarely starting – but now is the right time for him to move on.

That’s regardless of whether or not Leeds sign Traore, with the 27-year-old not an essential part of Marcelo Bielsa’s plans.

Given Costa’s aforementioned contract situation, Leeds should be able to receive a hefty fee for him too, with that money possibly being spent on new signings.

In other news, one Leeds player has been receiving some harsh criticism from a Premier League legend – find out who it is here.

Ultimate Inter dream team: Ronaldo, Lothar Matthaus & Javier Zanetti – but no Christian Vieri

Some absolute superstars have worn the Nerazzurri jersey over the years, but who makes their best-ever XI?

In their 114 years of history, Italian giants Inter have seen many champions wear their famed shirt. While some have been praised but then forgotten, others have left a profound mark by immortalising themselves in the minds of the fans and the club's history.

Sandro Mazzola, Giuseppe Meazza, Javier Zanetti, Ronaldo and Samuel Eto'o have all turned out for Inter, attempting to satisfy the refined palate of a fanbase that has always been demanding, whose judgment has often been decisive for the continuation of the careers of many Inter players.

Let's find out who makes it into the strongest Inter team of all time:

  • Wikipedia

    Walter Zenga | Goalkeeper

Walter Zenga is often remembered for his grave error against Claudio Caniggia at the 1990 World Cup that eventually ended Italy's hopes, bure more than anything he remains one of the greatest goalkeepers Italy and Inter have ever seen.

Zenga, who was nicknamed Spider-Man was a boyhood Inter fan and would end up becoming an idol of the supporters.

Voted best goalkeeper in the world by the IFFHS for three consecutive years (1989-1991), Zenga has a special place in Inter fans' hearts.

He is, without doubt, the perfect choice to guard the goal of this dream team.

  • Getty

    Maicon | Right-back

In hindsight, the signing of Maicon was one of the best deals secured by Inter in its history: little expense and a lot of yield.

The void left by the Brazilian full-back after his six-year spell at the club on the right wing is still not filled, even if Achraf Hakimi and Denzel Dumfries have done a decent job these last few seasons.

Maicon enjoyed immense success at Inter, winning four Scudetti, two Coppa Italia trophies and a Champions League title among other silverware, which also included a treble in 2009/10.

He is without doubt our dream team's right-back.

  • Getty

    Giuseppe Bergomi| Centre-back

The bushy eyebrows and moustache he sported even as a youngster were legendary. Nicknamed "Uncle", Bergomi is an Inter legend.

Having won the World Cup as an 18-year-old in 1982, Bergomi would go on to lead Inter for years to come.

He represented Nerazzuri for almost 20 seasons, which, in today's world, would be considered almost impossible to replicate.

Bergomi was a versatile defender – equally comfortable at right-back as he was in the middle – who represented Inter with pride and won a Scudetto, a Coppa Italia and three UEFA Cups.

    Walter Samuel | Centre-back

The nickname 'The Wall' alone was enough to strike fear into the opponents' forwards when they played against an Inter team with Walter Samuel in the backline.

With Lucio, he formed an elite defensive pairing, a fundamental component in Inter's historic treble-winning side of 2009/10.

The old fashioned, no-frills defending of the South American was an integral part of Inter for almost nine seasons.

Samuel also served the club after his retirement. Between 2016 and 2017, the Argentine was part of Stefano Pioli's technical staff and he will always be remembered fondly by Inter fans.

Palmer tips Ezgjan Alioski to stay at Leeds despite transfer talk

Former Leeds United midfielder Carlton Palmer has told The Transfer Tavern in an exclusive interview that he expects Ezgjan Alioski to remain at Elland Road this summer.

Alioski’s contract is up at the end of the month and it had looked like he was on his way out of the Yorkshire club, with Galatasaray heavily linked.

However, according to Football Insider, Leeds have offered the 29-year-old a new and improved offer as they desperately try to keep hold of him.

It is all still a bit up in the air at the moment, but Palmer is tipping Alioski to eventually put pen to paper on a new deal and extend his stay at Elland Road.

“You don’t want to lose any of your good players,” the ex-Leeds star said as he discussed Alioski’s future. “The problem that you’ve got, though, is the players get their heads turned by agents who are always touting their players around.

“Obviously [Marcelo] Bielsa wants to keep him and I’m sure they’ll reach an agreement. If the player wants to stay, they’ll reach an agreement.”

It is not hard to see why Bielsa wants to retain the services of the North Macedonia international.

In the season that has just gone, Alioski missed just two Premier League games and was used in more than one position by Bielsa, showing his importance to the side.

Man Utd player ratings vs Barcelona: Marcus Rashford shines at Camp Nou in Europa League play-off first leg

Marcus Rashford was key in his side holding out for a draw in what was a frantic and exciting European tie at Camp Nou on Thursday.

Marcus Rashford was the game-changer yet again for Manchester United as they secured a 2-2 draw with Barcelona at Camp Nou on Thursday.

The Red Devils looked strong in the first leg of their Europa League play-off tie against Xavi's men but they were unfortunate to give away two fairly soft goals to Marcos Alonso and Raphinha.

Rashford produced a fine finish at the near post for United's first goal and a strong cross that resulted in an own goal from Jules Kounde, while Erik ten Hag owes a lot to Casemiro and Raphael Varane, who were solid when it came to the defensive work.

GOAL rates Manchester United's players from Camp Nou…

  • Getty

    Goalkeeper & Defence

    David de Gea (7/10):

Made a strong save to deny Robert Lewandowski early and was reliable other than when Raphinha's long range effort snuck past him.

    Aaron Wan-Bissaka (4/10):

Defensively horrendous as he ended up overwhelmed and made it easy for Barca to create danger from his side.

    Raphael Varane (8/10):

Tasked with keeping Lewandowski quiet, he did well to prevent the hitman getting time on the ball.

    Luke Shaw (7/10):

Another strong performance in the middle of defence for the away team, giving nothing away.

    Tyrell Malacia (6/10):

Worked hard down the left side as always and put in some heavy tackles to keep Barca out. Pushed forward a lot to offer an option in attack, too.

  • Getty Images

    Midfield

    Casemiro (8/10):

Vital in protecting the back-four to maintain control in midfield and mopped behind the defence at times, but a nervy moment late on when he hit his team's post.

    Fred (7/10):

Got forward to help out in attack but offered no challenge for Marcos Alonso for the opening goal. His neat pass set up Rashford's equaliser.

    Bruno Fernandes (7/10):

Carved out big chances for the away side as their most creative player. Was their best player in the first half and was key in the second.

  • Getty Images

    Attack

    Jadon Sancho (6/10):

Wasted a great chance in the second half but helped create a good one for Rashford. Still should have done more to help out his side.

    Wout Weghorst (6/10):

His poorly placed effort ruined a great goal scoring opportunity in the first half. Was busy pressing the Barca defence when United were out of possession.

    Marcus Rashford (8/10):

A strong charge forward, neat touch and fine finish to equalise and then his cross started the trouble that resulted in Jules Kounde's own goal.

    Subs & Manager

    Alejandro Garnacho (5/10):

Came on in the last 10 minutes for Jadon Sancho but could did not get much of a chance to affect the game as Barca pushed for a late winner.

    Erik ten Hag (7/10):

Set his team up well for a difficult trip to Camp Nou. They were the more dangerous team in the first half and responded well to going a goal down.

Fabrizio Romano drops Ancelotti update

There is no agreement yet between Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The lowdown

Madrid are on the hunt for a new manager after the departure of Zinedine Zidane.

Ancelotti has already had a spell in the dugout at the Santiago Bernabeu, taking charge between 2013 and 2015.

He didn’t manage to win the league title with the Spanish giants, but did lead them to the Champions League and the Copa del Rey in 2013/14 (via Transfermarkt).

They then followed that up with the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup later in the year.

Ancelotti joined Everton on a four-and-a-half-year contract in December 2019 after the sacking of Marco Silva.

The latest

Romano confirmed that Real Madrid are ‘in talks’ with the Italian and are ‘pushing’ for his return.

But that’s as far as the proposed deal has got for now:”No agreement signed yet as he’s under contract with EFC,” he tweeted, ten words which are surely music to the ears of the Toffees faithful.Â

Romano also added that a potential alternative to Ancelotti, former Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte, has yet to be directly contacted.

The verdict

It would be an almighty blow if Everton lose Ancelotti. Appointing him was a statement of the club’s ambition, and so losing him after so little time would be seen as somewhat of an embarrassment for the club.

Supporters will have to hope that Real Madrid’s financial difficulties prevent them from buying out the 61-year-old’s contract, with Romano seemingly confirming that his current deal at Goodison could prevent a stumbling block for a possible return to Spain.

Given the fan reaction – Everton News Feed called it ‘devastating’ – when news broke that Ancelotti could leave the club, perhaps Romano’s update can serve to calm the waters.

In other news, fans reacted to this star’s omission from his country’s Euro 2020 squad.Â
