Arsenal pre season tour 2023: fixtures, dates, ppv, rooney, usa

Arsenal enjoyed a remarkable season in the Premier League this year, which saw them hold onto top spot for a record 248 days before a late-season collapse allowed the imperious Manchester City to claim their third straight title.

The Gunners started last season with a string of pre-season victories in the United States against Chelsea and Everton, and fans will be hoping another American tour this summer can inspire the team to another title challenge come August.

What are Arsenal's 2023 pre-season fixtures?

The club have confirmed three pre-season fixtures so far, but if last season is anything to go by, we should expect them to start pre-season with a behind-closed-doors friendly and end it with the Emirates Cup.

The confirmed fixtures from the Arsenal official site.

Arsenal v MLS All-Stars, July 14th, kick-off: 04:30 BST Arsenal v Manchester United, July 22nd, kick-off: 22:00 BST Arsenal v Barcelona, July 26th, kick-off: TBC Where are Arsenal playing their pre-season fixtures?

For a second year running, the Gunners will be heading to the United States of America for the bulk of their pre-season, playing their three games in three different cities.

Arteta's men will kick off their tour against the MLS All-Stars at Washington DC's Audi Field. The game won't be easy for the boys in red and white, and there should be some added excitement due to ex-Manchster United legend Wayne Rooney managing the American side.

After the announcement, Rooney expressed his excitement to ESPN: "The opportunity to lead the best our league has to offer against a top Premier League club like Arsenal will be a highlight for me personally and an unforgettable experience for our passionate fanbase here in DC."

Arsenal's next game, against Manchester United, will occur in the city that never sleeps, New York. The venue for this all-English affair will be the massive Met Life stadium, home to the New York Jets NFL team.

The final game of the tour against La Liga champions Barcelona takes the north Londoners to the West Coast. Los Angeles's SoFi stadium will play host to the two teams.

SoFi stadium is owned by Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke and is the home of his Super Bowl winning NFL team, the LA Rams.

Can I buy tickets for the games?

Tickets for the first game of the tour against Rooney's MLS All-Stars are still available on Ticketmaster, but with the cheapest tickets priced at £202, it certainly isn't for the faint of heart.

Ticketmaster is also selling tickets to the game against Manchester United, with these ones being somewhat cheaper at around £136.

Those who fancy a trip to Los Angeles to see the Gunners take on the Blaugrana can expect to pay the least with Ticketmaster pricing tickets from £86.

Can I watch the games on TV in the UK?

Arsenal are yet to announce details on how fans can watch the club's matches whilst on tour, but if the last few years are anything to go by, the club will likely charge fans on a per-game basis through their own in-house media.

Fans have also been able to watch extensive highlights through Arsenal's YouTube channel during recent tours.

When does Arsenal's Premier League season start?

The Premier League season is scheduled to start on August 12th 2023, just 17 days after Arsenal's final pre-season game against Barcelona.

Arteta and co will undoubtedly have one eye on the season proper whilst in the USA.

Who is likely to go on the USA tour?

Arteta will likely bring the whole first-team squad to undergo as much preparation as possible before mounting another challenge for the Premier League title. Some of the youngsters that can expect a place on the plane would be Reuell Walters, Catalin Cirjan, Amario Cozier-Duberry and the forgotten Marquinhos. Additionally, if Edu conducts the club's transfer business similarly to last year, we could see some summer signings make their debuts in the US, looking at you, Declan Rice.

West Ham: £34m Star Could Be Their New Payet

Every day that passes is a moment closer to the gut-wrenching departure of Declan Rice from West Ham United.

The club captain will be looking to end a nine-year association with the Irons and lead his side to its first European trophy since 1965.

Behind the scenes, the Hammers hierarchy would have undoubtedly already kickstarted their search for Rice’s replacement, with a reported fee of up to £120m being touted for the 24-year-old.

One player who could potentially fill this void is Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse. In a recent report, West Ham, Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspur were all rumoured to be tracking this gifted technician.

However, the east London outfit must fight their way to the front of the queue and his signing would be an intelligent investment.

Why should West Ham sign James Ward-Prowse?

Since making his Saints debut in 2011, the Englishman has made 408 appearances for his boyhood club and has established himself as the most influential and productive player within the side.

In a desperately poor season that has seen Southampton suffer relegation, the 11-cap international has been the only shining light and deserving of a move to stay in the top flight.

The skipper has featured in every league game this season and has registered 12 goal contributions and the highest average rating (6.93) in the squad, as per WhoScored. He has also recorded two key passes per game and is a vital figure in his side’s most threatening attacking sequences.

Within this repertoire, the midfielder has developed a formidable reputation for his mesmeric set pieces, which has even led Pep Guardiola to describe him as the “best free-kick taker in the world.”

The title-winning Spaniard has also labelled the playmaker as someone with "great quality."

James-Ward-Prowse-Southampton

When Southampton defeated Chelsea back in February, the £100k-per-week midfielder netted his 17th goal from a free-kick to move within one of the Premier League record held by David Beckham.

His unbelievable technique is certainly reminiscent of the days when Dimitri Payet used to effortlessly glide around east London on a weekly basis, as both share a dangerous eye for goal from long distances.

Indeed, the Frenchman was capable of the spectacular, with six of his 15 Hammers goals coming via a direct free-kick. Perhaps the most notable was that remarkable strike against Crystal Palace at Upton Park.

The playmaker ultimately departed in 2017 and his mercurial artistry is still yet to be adequately replaced as Lucas Paqueta still adjusts to his new surroundings. But Southampton’s "magic" player – as dubbed by Benjy Nurick – possesses a wealth of experience in English football and would undoubtedly hit the ground running.

Furthermore, as Tomas Soucek’s goal-scoring threat from midfield has looked to have diminished, finding the net only three times in 49 outings this term, the £34m-rated Saints star can fill that void as well as owning an abundance of leadership amassed from the spell of captaincy on the south coast.

The Hammers should rescue him from the prospect of Championship football, and it would definitely be worthwhile.

Man Utd Could Seal Eriksen 2.0 In £35k-p/w Gem

It has been a season of progression at Manchester United, with manager Erik ten Hag having made a promising start to life in English football during his debut campaign at the helm, having notably ended the club's six-year trophy drought and led the Red Devils to within a point of a top-four finish.

Following the dour end to last season under interim boss Ralf Rangnick – which saw the struggling side record their worst-ever Premier League points tally – it appears an altogether different story this time around, with lingering hope of further silverware to come ahead of next month's FA Cup final.

A feature in United's resurgence this term has been the astute additions that were made last summer, with Lisandro Martinez having been something of a "monster" in defence, according to teammate Luke Shaw, with fellow South American star, Casemiro, proving himself to be a simply "brilliant football player" – as per his manager.

The Old Trafford outfit also benefitted from the free transfer signing of Christian Eriksen, with the Danish playmaker having been snapped up from Brentford after a six-month stay in west London, having managed to get back to his best despite suffering a life-threatening cardiac arrest in the summer of 2021.

Since his arrival in Manchester back in July, the 31-year-old has certainly made his presence felt with 11 goals and assists in 42 games across all fronts, having only been denied further involvement after enduring a spell out with injury in the second half of the campaign.

Lauded as a "hugely intelligent footballer" by ex-Red Devils man, Luke Chadwick, the signing of Eriksen has proven to be a real masterstroke for Ten Hag, with it rare to be able to snap up a player of such quality for nothing.

Man United's Christian Eriksen

The recent suggestion is, however, that the former Ajax boss could replicate that wise move by securing the signing of Leicester City's Youri Tielemans this summer, with the Belgium international also set to be available on a free amid his expiring contract.

According to journalist Rudy Galetti – speaking to GIVEMESPORT – the 26-year-old is being closely watched by those at the Theatre of Dreams: "We can see that Arsenal are always interested in Tielemans. Even if at the moment we can no longer consider them treating the race for the Leicester player as a priority.

"Manchester United, Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund are following with attention the midfielder and they can probably guarantee more game time, especially the German club with the sale of Bellingham in June."

Should Man United sign Tielemans?

Much like Eriksen – who previously made over 300 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur – Tielemans would arrive in Manchester with a wealth of Premier League experience under his belt, having provided 40 goal involvements in 149 games in the competition to date.

While part of a Foxes side that is currently staring at relegation, Tielemans has still chipped in with three goals and one assist from his deep-lying midfield berth, while also showcasing his creative prowess after providing nine big chances this season – an even better record than that of Eriksen (six big chances).

Leicester's Youri Tielemans

The £35k-per-week gem was notably hailed as "arguably one of the best midfielders in the Premier League" by ex-Leicester man Emile Heskey man last season, while fellow BT Sport pundit Martin Keown also labelled him as the "complete midfield player".

Such glowing praise is an indication of the potential diamond that Ten Hag could have on his hands if he is to move for the 5 foot 9 sensation ahead of next season, with it clear to see why – as Galetti alluded to – there are so many elite clubs tracking his progress.

As mentioned above with the example of Eriksen, Man United could pull off another free transfer masterclass by snapping up the brilliant Belgian this summer.

Man United Keen On Deal For £43m-Valued Midfielder This Summer

Manchester United are keen to try and add Adrien Rabiot to their ranks according to L'Equipe, via Sport Witness, with the player set to be available for nothing this summer.

What is the latest on Adrien Rabiot to Man United?

The midfielder has been in scintillating form this season for Juventus, with the player producing eight goals and three assists in 28 Serie A starts for the side. It marks his best ever return in terms of his amount of goal contributions and even tops his time spent in France with PSG.

Despite this, the 28-year-old is yet to extend his stay in Italy with his current club. His current contract with Juve expires on June 30 and if he doesn't agree fresh terms before then, it means that the midfielder will become a free agent and can sign for another team for no fee.

adrien-rabiot-newcastle-united-transfer-opinion-premier-league

Now, according to major French newspaper L'Equipe, via Sport Witness, that has brought Rabiot to the attention of Erik Ten Hag and Man United. It's clear that the Dutch boss wants to try and bring in some reinforcements in the centre of the field this summer and it appears as though Rabiot fits the bill for the manager.

The Premier League outfit are believed to be eager to get a deal done – so much so that their manager has already personally spoken to the player over a possible switch to Old Trafford. They now want to try and get a deal over the line as quickly as they can for the Frenchman.

Should Man United sign Adrien Rabiot?

The Red Devils do need some more guile and creativity in their midfield, especially with Marcel Sabitzer set to return to Bayern Munich at the end of his loan deal as things stand.

It opens up a gap for Rabiot in the centre and he could offer plenty to the Old Trafford outfit if he did join the club. For starters, he has received high praise from former striker David Trezeguet, who was an icon for both France and Juve. He called the midfielder "world-class" and added that Rabiot is "an extraordinary player" to Football Italia (via JuveFC).

Those statements from the former player are backed up by his showings this season. Rabiot has a WhoScored rating of 7.15 in Serie A this campaign, which shows he has consistently performed at the top of his game. That rating gets even better when he has had to try and drag Juve through European competition in the Europa League (7.16). He manages 0.9 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game too, showing how despite being largely a destructive midfielder, he is able to split open defences with his passing and also carve them open by driving the ball forward himself too.

Rabiot then would be a real talent for United to snap up, especially on a free. He instantly upgrades their midfield and adds goals, which is something they have been lacking this season.

Man Utd Could Sell £350k-p/w Transfer Flop

Journalist Jacque Talbot has claimed that Jadon Sancho is likely to leave Manchester United this summer in a shock summer departure.

What is the latest on Jadon Sancho and Man Utd?

It was only as recently as July 2021 when the Englishman joined the Red Devils in a £73m transfer from German outfit Borussia Dortmund.

At the time of the deal, it was reported that the winger had signed a five-year deal at United, with an option of a further year.

However, things have not gone too well for Sancho since then and it now sounds as though he could be on his way out of the club his summer.

Indeed, while talking on his YouTube channel, Talbot said (36:48): “It will be interesting to see about Sancho. His time is probably up now, isn't it?

Will Sancho leave Man Utd this summer?

After joining for such a high transfer fee, it's not as if Sancho has lived up to expectations since arriving in the Premier League.

Indeed, he has only eight goals and five assists in 51 league games in his first two seasons at Old Trafford – with only six goals and two assists to his name in all competitions this term.

He's come in for some heavy criticism for his performances at times too over the past few months. For instance, United legend Paul Scholes slammed Sancho after he failed to impress in the Europa League defeat to Sevilla.

The BT Pundit said (via Mirror): "During the warm-ups we were eulogising about the crowd and saying how aggressive and hostile it was.

Man United's Jadon Sancho

"When the United players see and hear that they need to go into the dressing room and think, 'I need to be ready for this and my first touch has got to be ready'.

"You see Jadon Sancho in the first five minutes tonight, the ball bounced off him three times, terrible weight of pass too. I’m a big fan of the lad but you’ve got to liven up and be ready."

Worryingly, his last three performances in the Premier League have been underwhelming too, delivering 6.6, 6.5 and 6.6 SofaScore ratings against Aston Villa, Brighton and then West Ham most recently.

With all that in mind, it's hard to see where a sudden shift in form is going to come from and Man United may well be best to cut their losses and sell the £350k-p/w flop this summer while they can still make back some money on that £73m originally spent.

Tottenham Could Recapture Identity With Magic 4-4-2 Manager

Tottenham Hotspur need to get their next appointment right. For too long a club of their size has languished far away from the major honours, leading to widespread ridicule from rival fans. They should be fighting for silverware every season, yet far too often they find their campaign ended in January as they exit both cups.

However, one pitfall they cannot afford to fall into again is to hire someone to fulfil that sole purpose. Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho were born winners and had done so at every club before joining the Lilywhites. It just feels like the foundations are not in place for such a consistent assault for trophies quite yet.

Therefore, Daniel Levy could perhaps divert his attention away from these ageing mercenaries whose best days are behind them, and instead opt for someone who can lead them into the future.

Whilst Mauricio Pochettino had done so in his early stint in north London, leading them up the Premier League table and into a Champions League final, his potential return would mark a similar blunder as their recent hires.

The Argentine has only struggled since his sacking, ultimately being given the boot by PSG too, and many could argue he too fits into that category of coaches whose best days are behind them.

Therefore, of the manager list that is ever-changing, Vincent Kompany should be the outstanding candidate for where they seek to go in the future.

How is Vincent Kompany's managerial philosophy?

Having already secured promotion with his Burnley side, the rapidity with which he turned the relegated Clarets around was astounding. Joining from Anderlecht, few knew how the Belgian would manage as the squad was purged upon their exit from the top division.

Chairman Alan Pace had admitted that there was a three-year plan in place for their promotion back, but the "magic" that his appointment has worked shocked even him.

Another issue that plagued him was the play style, which many thought they knew well: they will lump it long, feed off the second balls and look to dominate in the air.

mauricio-pochettino-tottenham-hotspur-hugo-lloris

Kompany wasted no time in rewriting this script. Maintaining a 4-4-2 shape, much of the 37-year-old's philosophy was born through Pep Guardiola's tutelage. As what is essentially the antithesis to that aforementioned Burnley stereotype, suddenly short and sharp passes were exchanged to progress them up the Turf Moor field.

Patience is key for the former Manchester City defender, but a high press is even more imperative in maintaining a stranglehold on every game his teams partake in.

This enthralling style has seen them hit 91 points already in the Championship, having scored 78 times in 41 games and conceding just 30. They are both the top scorers and have conceded the least in the division.

With an identity crisis of sorts going on at Spurs, as the turgid and pragmatic football that promised trophies continues to falter, perhaps a return to the form of those early days under Pochettino could help them recapture what made the club so special.

However, they must do so without relying on relics of the past, and instead betting on the future to lead them to glory.

Everton’s £510-p/w Teen Could Replace Davies

It does appear that Everton could be in line for something of a mass exodus this summer, with a host of first-team players currently coming towards the end of their existing deals at Goodison Park.

Among those who could potentially depart on a free transfer is long-serving midfielder, Tom Davies, with the 24-year-old having become something of a peripheral figure at the club of late after initially rising up through the youth ranks.

While there have been claims that the Englishman could be offered an extension, The Athletic's Greg O'Keeffe revealed that the Liverpool-born dud may opt to refuse any potential new deal, having started just four Premier League games this season.

The 5 foot 11 man – who was the subject of interest from Glasgow Rangers back in January – had endured an injury-hit 2021/22 campaign after making just six top-flight appearances, with it perhaps time the £25k-per-week warrior seeks to revive his career elsewhere.

Manager Sean Dyche will still likely need to acquire a replacement for the former England U21 international, however, due to the lack of real depth in the centre of the park, albeit with it yet to be seen what budget the former Burnley boss will have amid the club's financial woes.

With that in mind, the 51-year-old may be better served turning to the academy set-up in order to find a successor to the departing Davies, with 18-year-old Jenson Metcalfe seemingly one such gem who could be a potential midfield star of the future.

Who is Jenson Metcalfe?

The teenager – who signed a new four-year deal with the Merseyside outfit back in September – is undoubtedly one of the most highly-rated assets that the club have on their books, having been hailed as a "good prospect" by journalist Patrick Boyland.

While the "talented" midfielder – as described by Boyland – has been limited to just six appearances at youth level this season after previously sustaining an ACL injury last year, the indication is that the Englishman could truly begin to thrive when back to full fitness.

The Wigan native has been with the Premier League side since joining at the age of five, with the club's official website hailing him as an 'energetic and technically-proficient central midfield player'.

Although the youngster is still waiting for a chance to shine in the first-team, the playmaker has previously scored four times and registered three assists in 31 games at U18 level, as well as making seven appearances for the U21s to date.

Everton midfielder Tom Davies

The promising gem has been earmarked as a player to keep an eye on in recent years after notably earning a place in the Guardian's Next Generation list in 2021, showcasing the top 20 young talents in the Premier League.

As journalist Andy Hunter noted at the time of that inclusion, the emerging starlet is a 'real competitor with an outstanding passing range', while going on to add that: 'Metcalfe can play off both feet, has impressive technical ability and is a dead-ball specialist. He can also score a variety of goals and intercepts or regains possession with fierce intensity.'

Those traits would likely be appealing to Dyche, with Metcalfe also describing himself as a "tempo-setter" as well as revealing his admiration for Spain and Barcelona icon, Sergio Busquets, due to the latter man being "so relaxed on the ball".

Evidently a player who likes to dictate proceedings but is also not afraid to shirk a challenge and get involved in an attacking sense, the £510-per-week sensation could well make Everton supporters forget all about that man Davies.

42 y/o Did Not Want Chelsea Managerial Role

Chelsea will play out the rest of the 2022/23 campaign with their former manager Frank Lampard now as interim manager after Bruno Saltor did not want to job, to begin with.

Why have Chelsea rehired Frank Lampard?

The Blues will see Lampard return to the sidelines at Stamford Bridge for their remaining games on the back of their recent draw against Liverpool.

It has been a season to forget for Chelsea with a lot of money spent over the transfer windows which have not produced results in the league.

The draw against Jurgen Klopp's side was not enough to pull Chelsea back into the top half as they now sit slumped in 11th spot and a whopping 14 points off fourth place.

Champions League football is now out of the picture for the Blues, but it is a measure of how poor their campaign has been under Graham Potter that they are this far off the pace.

Upon Potter's sacking, his assistant coach, Saltor, was appointed as the caretaker manager and oversaw the following game against Liverpool.

However, speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has claimed the Spaniard did not particularly want to take on the job given his close relationship with Potter:

(3:50) "Bruno Saltor, the interim manager [appointed] a few days ago and also in the Liverpool game, he was not 100% keen on this job.

"He was there because Chelsea decided to do that, after the Graham Potter surprising timing and situation, but he's really close to Graham Potter. And so the feeling at Chelsea is that they needed something different until the end of the season."

Will Lampard be better than Saltor?

The Blues were held to a draw on Tuesday night in a game which they very much dominated but were simply unable to find the back of the net.

Chelsea ended the game with an XG of 2.17 in comparison to Liverpool's mere 0.35, yet were forced to share the points with the Reds (via SofaScore).

But Saltor's time at the helm only lasted one game as Chelsea opted to bring in Lampard for the remaining games in the league and Champions League.

Frank Lampard claps the fans as Chelsea play in the Premier League.

Lampard is someone who will provide more experience than Saltor having previously managed across a number of different teams.

However, his time in the Premier League has not exactly been a roaring success.

The former midfielder was sacked by Everton earlier in the year less than 12 months after being appointed at Goodison Park amid their ongoing relegation concerns.

And his time at Stamford Bridge between 2019-2021 only saw Lampard able to provide a return of on average 1.75 points per game which saw him sacked in favour of Thomas Tuchel.

Perhaps Lampard will not be able to pull of a Champions League miracle, but it is apparent Chelsea value his experience at the club more than that of Saltor.
