EFC fans rage at Brands news

Everton fans are livid after it was suggested Marcel Brands has had no say in the Toffees pursuing Rafael Benitez to become their new manager.

We are rapidly approaching the 21/22 campaign, but the Goodison Park outfit remain without a manager after previous boss Carlo Ancelotti returned to Real Madrid (Sky Sports).

The Toffees continue to search for their new boss, and it appears that Benitez is leading the race at the moment – that has not gone down too well with the fans (HITC) considering his previous allegiance to Liverpool.

Brands is Everton’s sporting director, and should therefore have had a big say in who the next boss should be. However, as per journalist Paul Joyce, Brands has been given little say in who will replace Ancelotti.

The news was shared on Twitter by @EvertonNewsFeed, and it attracted plenty of attention from the supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about Benitez below

AVFC: Fans react to Bjorn Engels news

Aston Villa have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Belgian side Royal Antwerp for the transfer of Bjorn Engels.

And a number of Villa supporters have been sharing their thoughts on the news on social media.

Engels with have a medical this weekend ahead of a proposed move back to his native country. He’s been with Villa since 2019 after joining in a move worth £7.2m from Stade Reims.

However, the 26-year-old failed to make a Premier League appearance under Dean Smith last season, with Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa ever-presents at Villa Park.

Engels looks set to leave Villa with just 19 appearances to his name, scoring his only goal for the club in a 3-2 defeat to Tottenham last year.

Villa fans react

The club shared the news on Engels on their official Twitter page on Friday evening.

The majority of Villa fans seemed fairly sad at the news, with one describing the defender as ‘brilliant’.

Real Madrid eye up Leeds star Phillips

Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips is reportedly being watched closely by Real Madrid, following a superb start to his Euro 2020 campaign with England.

The Lowdown: Phillips excels for England

The 25-year-old started for the Three Lions in their opener against Croatia on Sunday afternoon, producing a Man of the Match performance and providing the assist for Raheem Sterling’s winning goal.

It was the type of display that Leeds fans have become accustomed to, but it was pleasing to see him shine on the big stage, in front of a huge worldwide audience.

The Latest: Real Madrid linked with shock move

Phillips’ brilliance for England seemingly hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Defensa Central claiming that European giants Madrid are reportedly keeping an eye on him as they look for summer recruits.

Carlo Ancelotti has recently taken charge at the Santiago Bernabeu and it may be that he was an admirer of the midfielder during his time at Everton in the Premier League.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-copy-2/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Unlikely to happen

It sums up Phillips’ quality that a team of Madrid’s stature are reportedly eyeing him up, having been such an influential player for Leeds during a glorious period in their history.

In truth, it is hard to see the La Liga side actually signing him – they are more known for signing world-renowned ‘Galacticos’ – so Marcelo Bielsa is unlikely to be losing any sleep.

That being said, should Phillips continue to improve as a player, it could be increasingly difficult for the Whites to keep hold of him for the long-term future.

In other news, a former Leeds man has failed to rule out one current Whites player leaving this summer. Find out who it is here.

Rain and Gayle lash India

The Queen’s Park Oval at Trinidad might be one of India’s favouriteaway grounds but that did not save them from a thrashing at the handsof the West Indians on Saturday

Erapalli Prasanna02-Jun-2002The Queen’s Park Oval at Trinidad might be one of India’s favouriteaway grounds but that did not save them from a thrashing at the handsof the West Indians on Saturday. The game began on a sombre note with the players observing a minute’ssilence in memory of the recently departed Subhash Gupte, whom Iconsider to be the greatest leg-spinner the game has seen, and HansieCronje.I feel sorry for the present generation of cricket lovers who neversaw the great Gupte in action. He was a genius in the true sense ofthe word and could work magic on any wicket and against any batsman. Iwould venture to say that if he were playing now, he would haveclaimed 500 Test wickets with ease, considering the high quality offielding support that he would be getting.I still cherish the memory of playing against the great man in aCentral Zone v South Zone encounter at Bangalore. In the course of aface-saving partnership for South which I forged in the company of thelate Kripal Singh, I picked up various nuances of the art of spinbowling from the maestro. Truly, it was a blessed moment for me.Naturally, at the start of the match, I then thought that the Indians, after electing to bat, would spare no effort in earning a win thatthey could subsequently dedicate to memory of the late genius. But therain seemed to have played spoilsport as far as they were concerned. They clearly seemed to lack a gameplan to tackle the contingency ofbatting first in a contest truncated to a 25-over-a-side affair.Batsman after batsman started going for quick runs, as the touristsplayed into the hands of the West Indies side who bundled them out for123 runs. The home side were favourites from thereon and the only hopethe Indians lay in the prospect of another shower washing out thematch before the West Indies reached the modest victory target.A shower did come early on in the West Indies innings but it was anunwelcome sight for the Indians. In the seventh over of the hometeam’s innings bowled by Tinu Yohanan it rained boundaries as WestIndies opener Chris Gayle, who had begun middling the ball well, opened his broad shoulders and plundered 25 runs. The savage attackeffectively sealed the fate of the match.Gayle and his partner Wavell Hinds went on to add 117 runs at wellover a run a ball and this meant that the West Indies easily achievedthe series-leveling win that they had been seeking at the start of thematch. The home team proved that they were ready to take the bull by thehorns in a must-win encounter and their aggressive approach paid richdividends indeed. Now, with the series hanging in the balance, it isup to the Indians to prove that they can bounce back and at least winthe one-day series before leaving the Caribbean.

Fabrizio Romano drops Ancelotti update

There is no agreement yet between Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The lowdown

Madrid are on the hunt for a new manager after the departure of Zinedine Zidane.

Ancelotti has already had a spell in the dugout at the Santiago Bernabeu, taking charge between 2013 and 2015.

He didn’t manage to win the league title with the Spanish giants, but did lead them to the Champions League and the Copa del Rey in 2013/14 (via Transfermarkt).

They then followed that up with the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup later in the year.

Ancelotti joined Everton on a four-and-a-half-year contract in December 2019 after the sacking of Marco Silva.

The latest

Romano confirmed that Real Madrid are ‘in talks’ with the Italian and are ‘pushing’ for his return.

But that’s as far as the proposed deal has got for now:”No agreement signed yet as he’s under contract with EFC,” he tweeted, ten words which are surely music to the ears of the Toffees faithful.Â

Romano also added that a potential alternative to Ancelotti, former Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte, has yet to be directly contacted.

The verdict

It would be an almighty blow if Everton lose Ancelotti. Appointing him was a statement of the club’s ambition, and so losing him after so little time would be seen as somewhat of an embarrassment for the club.

Supporters will have to hope that Real Madrid’s financial difficulties prevent them from buying out the 61-year-old’s contract, with Romano seemingly confirming that his current deal at Goodison could prevent a stumbling block for a possible return to Spain.

Given the fan reaction – Everton News Feed called it ‘devastating’ – when news broke that Ancelotti could leave the club, perhaps Romano’s update can serve to calm the waters.

In other news, fans reacted to this star’s omission from his country’s Euro 2020 squad.Â

West Ham could land Ntcham for nothing

West Ham could sign one of their mooted transfer targets for nothing this summer, if emerging claims are to be believed…

What’s the word?

Last summer, 90min reported that the Irons were one of several teams eyeing a move for Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham, whilst over a year ago, it was thought that the two were in advanced talks over a transfer, as per Foot Mercato.

The 25-year-old joined Ligue 1 outfit Marseille during the January transfer window after they failed to secure Hammers star Manuel Lanzini, according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon.

It appears that his future at Parkhead is in serious doubt, if not already over. Celtic are set to terminate his contract a year early, meaning he would be available on a free transfer this summer.

And now it has been revealed by the ever-reliable ExWHUemployee that the Frenchman is represented by a familiar figure, Will Salthouse, who also has the likes of Michail Antonio, Aaron Cresswell, Craig Dawson and Ryan Fredericks on his books.

Squad depth option

Now that the season is done and dusted, and the unthinkable has been achieved, it’s time for David Moyes and the club’s hierarchy to move on with plans ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 58-year-old has transformed the East Londoners from firm relegation candidates to sealing a place in Europe in the space of just one year.

However, if the Irons go into battle next season as they are, they could well struggle due to the lack of rotation options at Moyes’ disposal.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-west-ham-news-transfer-rumours-and-the-latest-gossip” title= “Read the latest West Ham news, transfer rumours, gossip and more!”]

For instance, the Scotsman is just one injury to Michail Antonio away from not having a senior striker and this is a similar case right across the squad, with the Hammers lacking depth in midfield and in defence.

If Ntcham is available for nothing, then it could be a very shrewd decision to swoop for him, especially given his ties to a reliable figure in Salthouse.

Things have not gone to plan for the Bhoys midfielder at Marseille, where he has averaged an abysmal rating of 6.13, whilst L’Equipe rated one of his performances a brutal 3/10 back in March (via The Sun).

But, truth be told, his stint at the Stade Velodrome was hampered from the minute he walked through the door as then-manager Andre Villas-Boas resigned because he did not want the player.

It wasn’t too long ago that Ntcham was being touted as a £7m target for Premier League teams, whilst current Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has always been a fan of his, having described him as a “terrific talent” in 2018.

Even Neil Lennon lauded him as “one hell of a player” during his time in charge of the Glasgow giants, so to get him for nothing would be a steal.

Another body in midfield is certainly needed this summer as next season will be Mark Noble’s final campaign in the claret and blue, with Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice the only other two out-and-out central options available to Moyes.

Ntcham won’t be expected to pull up many trees but is surely a worthwhile candidate to consider. He’s set to be available for nothing and Salthouse could well do GSB a major favour.

AND in other news, Moyes could secure his own Vardy with a West Ham swoop for “crazy” £27m-rated talisman…
