Wilshere should try to impress new Arsenal boss instead of jumping ship

Arsenal have improved their contract offer to Jack Wilshere by upping the salary to in excess of £100,000 per week, according to The Mirror.

What’s the latest?

For so long it has seemed inevitable that Wilshere would be leaving the Gunners this summer due to the expiration of his current deal.

There did not seem to be any movement in negotiations from either camp, despite the fact that the midfielder has expressed a desire to stay.

Now, though, Arsenal appear to have shown their hand by increasing their original offer of £90,000 – less than what he currently earns – to more than £100,000 per week, reports The Mirror.

The publication adds that Wilshere remains keen on continuing his career at the Emirates, even though manager Arsene Wenger will be leaving at the end of the season.

What’s the best decision for Wilshere?

The main problem in the 26-year-old’s career has been injuries, but since recovering from a broken leg earlier this season, he has stayed healthy.

In total, Wilshere has made 38 appearances in all competitions, including 19 in the Premier League, and if he does stay at Arsenal, there is that risk that he will struggle for game time.

The Mirror claims that Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Juventus and AC Milan have all shown an interest in the midfielder.

It appears that the England international would have his pick of options, but if there is still part of him that is keen to remain a Gunner, then it is worth trying to impress the new manager that comes in.

Depending on who is appointed by Arsenal, Wilshere could cement a regular place in the first XI, and if not, at least he can say that he tried.

Securing young talent like Leite is all part of the Klopp masterplan at Liverpool

As reported by The Guardian, Liverpool have emerged as the leading contenders to sign Porto defensive prospect Diogo Leite this summer.

What’s the story?

Liverpool are on a definite high right now after reaching the UEFA Champions League final, but in order to progress under Jurgen Klopp they need to ensure they have another strong transfer window ahead of next season.

Key to their strategy will be signing established players who can immediately improve the first team, but it’s clear that Klopp is also planning for the long-term at Anfield and bringing young talents who can one day reach the elite level is also part of his masterplan.

One such player could be Diogo Leite, according to The Guardian, who say Liverpool is the likeliest destination for the player this summer, with the defender having a £13.2m release clause in his contract.

The paper reckon if they get the deal done they’ll be sending him out on loan to get first team experience next season.

Who is he?

Still just 19 years of age, Leite has yet to make a senior appearance for the Portuguese side, but is a regular for their B-side in the country’s second-tier, making 27 appearances this season.

With U19 caps for his country too, it’s clear he has big potential and getting in early on that to develop him at Anfield would be a sound bit of business from the Reds.

Cardiff fans are loving taking Swansea’s place in the Prem

Cardiff secured their 2nd place finish in the Championship on the final day of the season after a 0-0 draw with Reading, assuring the Bluebirds of Premier League football next season.

Neil Warnock’s side pipped third placed Fulham to the final automatic promotion spot after Fulham lost their final fixture 3-1 to Birmingham.

There were jubilant scenes at Cardiff City Stadium at the final whistle as ecstatic fans invading the pitch to  celebrate with the players.

The club have arranged a celebratory open-top bus parade this Sunday to mark their return to England’s top division.

And to put the cherry on the cake for Bluebirds supporters, just a few days after Cardiff secured their place in the Premier League, their local rivals Swansea City all but guaranteed their relegation to the Championship, with their home defeat to fellow strugglers Southampton.

Barring a 10 goal swing in the final fixture, Swansea will play in the Championship next season much to the delight of Bluebird fans who were quick to celebrate the Swan’s demise on social media.

Leeds fans beg club to sign departing Stockdale

Leeds fans are desperate for their club to sign David Stockdale, after Birmingham City told the goalkeeper he can leave the club.

It was a pretty long season for Leeds fans, as what looked like it could be a potential playoff push quickly died out after Christmas.

The arrival of Paul Heckingbottom had little to no effect, but the 40 year-old did make one majorly successful decision by dropping Felix Wiedwald for the impressive Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Peacock-Farrell had to wait until the final day of the season for his first Leeds clean sheet, although through no fault of his own, and now Leeds fans are calling for a new signing to give him some competition.

According to reports, David Stockdale has been told he can leave Birmingham this summer, as former Leeds man Garry Monk rebuilds the squad.

The 32 year-old made 36 starts for Birmingham this season as they battled relegation, and would be an excellent deputy to Peacock-Farrell.

Not only would his arrival mean the club have two quality players fighting for one spot, the Leeds-born Stockdale could certainly teach the youngster a thing or two.

With Wiedwald surely certain to leave, the fans are all saying the same thing about Stockdale’s availability, and some of the best Twitter reactions can be found below…

Tottenham fans hate swap links to Joao Mario

Tottenham fans are not too happy with the latest transfer rumours, after reports in Italy suggested Joao Mario could be used in as a makeweight to send Mousa Dembele to Inter Milan.

Spurs fans absolutely loved last week’s reports on Dembele, as reports claimed Inter Milan would use Ivan Perisic to beat their Serie A rivals to the signing of 30 year-old Belgian.

The latest reports aren’t going down so well though, as Tuttosport (via TalkSPORT) have claimed it is actually Mario who will be used in the swap.

The attacking midfielder earned his big money move to Inter after an impressive Euro 2016 run with Portugal, but has struggled with the San Siro club, scoring just three times in 44 league appearances.

He moved to West Ham on loan in January so he does have some Premier League experience, but he is not exactly the type of signing Spurs fans want to see.

Pochettino’s fantastic young squad is in need of just one or two superstar signings to push them to the next level, and Mario just simply isn’t that.

Fans certainly don’t want the 25 year-old, who has 35 Portugal caps, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Newcastle wish to cash in on Mbemba

According to HLN, Newcastle midfielder and defender Chancel Mbemba is on his way to FC Porto.

What’s the story?

Mbemba signed for Newcastle in 2015 and has gone on to make 54 league appearances for the club, scoring once.

However, the Congolese international found game-time harder to come by last season, only making seven starts for the Magpies.

Celtic have long-been rumoured to be interested in Mbemba, but it appears Brendan Rodgers has lost out in the race to sign the player who is valued at £5.4million on Transfermarkt.

No fee has been reported yet but HLN are sure that Mbemba is heading to the Portuguese champions in the next few days.

Time to move on

It is hard to quantify the deal at the moment without any stated fee, but it seems time for Mbemba to move on from Newcastle.

He failed to make much of an impression at St James’ Park last season and Newcastle are wise to recoup what they can for the player and reinvest it into the team.

Although he was popular with fans for his work-rate, he fell out of favour with the management and it seemed his time was very much up in Tyneside.

Everton fans bash Carvalho after fresh report

Everton fans think they have dodged a bullet with the latest transfer news, as the Italian press claim William Carvalho has snubbed his English suitors to join Inter Milan.

Multiple Premier League teams have been eyeing up summer swoop for Carvalho, and Marco Silva’s previous relationship with the giant midfielder had Everton as one of the front-runners.

According to Italian reports though, the towering defensive midfielder will join Inter Milan this summer.

The 26 year-old is one of a number of Sporting CP players expected to be on the move for a bargain price this summer, as several first team stars want to terminate their contracts after an attack at their training ground.

It seems like Everton won’t be the ones to land Carvalho though, and fans think they may just have dodged a bullet.

The 44–cap Portuguese international certainly knows how to break up play and launch his teams forward, but his languid style draws plenty of criticism.

Fans are all saying the same thing about the reports – that the last thing they need is another slow midfielder anyway.

West Bromwich Albion taking a gamble by signing Jeremain Lens

West Bromwich Albion are planning to launch a bid for Besiktas winger Jeremain Lens, according to Turkish publication Takvim.

What’s the word?

The Baggies are looking to make big changes to the squad in order to adapt to life in the Championship.

The club were relegated from the Premier League last season after finishing bottom of the standings, and they have a big task on their hands to gain instant promotion.

On Monday, Takvim reported that West Brom are eyeing former Sunderland player Lens, who only finalised his move to Besiktas in the last seven days.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”255574″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch Four World Cup myths debunked”]

The 30-year-old spent last season on loan at the Turkish outfit, making 32 appearances in all competitions.

In that time, Lens scored four goals and created five assists before making his move to Besiktas permanent.

Is Lens the right fit for West Brom?

There is certainly a talented player in the Netherlands international, who has earned 34 caps over the course of his career.

However, he has had his fair share of controversial moments on the pitch and behind the scenes.

If the Baggies want to focus on a promotion challenge, they need very little outside distraction as possible.

There is nothing to say that Lens would be a disruptive figure, but the risk is there.

On top of that, the winger had a difficult three-year spell at Sunderland, which could call into question his ability to thrive in the English game.

Despite this, Lens can provide versatility in that he can play on either wing or up front as a striker.

If West Brom can get the most out of Lens, then a move would be worth the risk.

Revealed: 58% of Newcastle fans would rather sign Ndiaye than Wilshere

Newcastle fans have been discussing some midfield targets for this summer, and fans are split over moves for two departing central midfielders.

Both Jack Wilshere and Badou Ndiaye will leave their current clubs this summer, and both players have been mentioned as possible targets for the Magpies.

Newcastle have been one of a number of clubs linked with a summer swoop for Wilshere, and the Arsenal man officially announced his departure from North London earlier this month.

The 26 year-old is undoubtedly talented, but injuries have hampered him in practically every season of his Arsenal career.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”258359″ player=”12034″ title=”The World Cup Twitter Report”]

Wilshere would be an excellent fit on Tyneside if he could stay fit, but unfortunately that’s an absolutely massive “if”.

Badou Ndiaye is another player being linked with a move up north, as Turkish Football claim the Senegal international wants to move to Newcastle.

Ndiaye was excellent in his short stint at Stoke, averaging an incredible 4.1 tackles per game.

The 27 year-old is great at carrying the ball forward, and could be a like for like replacement for the ageing fan favourite Mo Diame.

Fans clearly can’t decide between the two targets, with the slight majority leaning towards the Stoke star.

Salah secured: Liverpool must now tie-down Klopp favourite to start pre-season with a bang

Mohamed Salah was arguably Europe’s best player last season, and he was far and away the most efficient player in the Premier League. He scored a stunning 32 league goals, alongside 10 assists, and he played a crucial role as the Reds finished in the top four and competed in the Champions League final. Now, he’s been rewarded with a new long-term contract, which not only serves as a means of appreciating the hard work he put in last season, but it also goes a long way to ensuring he remains at Anfield long-term. It’s truly a fantastic start to the summer for the club, but now, the Reds must change their focus.

Indeed, now it’s time for Jurgen Klopp’s men to secure the future of Sadio Mane as they look to keep their stunning attack together.

Last season was a huge one for Sadio Mane. The Senegalese, combined with the players around him, continued his development and emerged as one of the Premier League’s best attackers.

Standing out alongside Salah was never going to be easy, but he managed it comfortably.

He dominated the left-hand side of the attack all season long, displaying brilliant quality going forward, whilst also maintaining a solid work ethic defensively. Known for his electric pace, Mane was always a threat down the flanks, and when combined with the talent around him, that had a devastating impact.

He finished the campaign with 10 goals and 7 assists, which whilst not as good as the players around him, is still a very strong record. With a contract until 2021, the Senegalese still has some way to go on his deal, but you can’t run even the smallest risk of losing a player of his quality.

With Salah’s signing, Liverpool now have the long-term futures of both Roberto Firmino and Salah secured. That’s two-thirds of a deadly attack, and now the Reds must tie down Mane to complete the trio.
